Episode 66: Othy Schwering

17 May

After months of planning (or forgetting to plan) fellow podcaster Othy Schwering makes his debut on this week’s Somebody and Me. Othy discusses his foray into improv/sketch and stand up comedy, which lead to the creation of his brainchild, Oink Presents. A fan calls in discussing his unusual habits, some of which Pat and Rob can identify with, and Pat fights Othy in an epic Previous Previews battle, with Pat emerging victorious (also revealing Othy’s indifference towards superhero movies).

Episode 65: TLPS Showdown

11 May

Rob and Pat bid a fond farewell to the original studio (our 65 episode contract was up) and as usual, find a way to investigate the bowel movement activity of Zack Mast. In hindsight most of those conversations don’t make their way to the podcast, but we felt compelled. Friends of the show the Last Podcaster Standing call in to discuss some current events and challenge Rob to Previous Previews.

Episode 64: Collin Batten

27 Apr

You’d recognize him if you saw him, but only with his makeup on… That’s right, on this special episode of Somebody and Me (we’re up to 3 now), Blue Man Collin Batten joins the gents to reveal all of the secrets of the Cerulean Quartet. Mike Barnard returns to the studio to join in the fun as Collin shares his acting background in Virginia, NYC and eventually Chicago — musical background; you won’t want to miss this fun conversation. Rob does a horrendous Bill Cosby impression, and the group plays guest favorite Preview Review.

Episode 63: Marah Eakin

20 Apr

This week on Somebody and Me, Pat and Rob chat via phone with The Onion AV Club’s Chicago editor, the personable Marah Eakin. Marah discusses her background in music journalism, which eventually enabled her transition into the AV Club, the distinct voice of the AV Club, and the legitimacy of podcasting.

Mike Barnard makes his record 5th appearance on the show (Zack Mast was on stand-by), joining Pat and Rob in the interview with Marah. Sy the Sandwich Guy also calls in, and has some not-so-subtle insinuations for the hosts whilst sharing his sandwich metaphor for the show.

Episode 62: Tim Maxwell and Chris Le

12 Apr

SHARE THE ONE PERCENT from Chris Le on Vimeo.

Chris Le and Tim Maxwell (of Tortoise De Force fame)  are back on the podcast this week, and oh did they come ready to record. Pat and Rob temper this preparedness with some hurried scribbling of ideas, and crafty stalling. This episode is jampacked with call-in guests, interviews, games, and commercials. Stay tuned to discover where to find a Halloween themed proctologist (year round mind you), a conversation with the Hanks brothers, and a special guest appearance by Anglo-phile Dave Navarro.

Episode 61: Erin Schaut

6 Apr

Erin Schaut stops by the studio this week, beating Pat and Rob there (they’re professional as ever) but killing time with Sleighbells. She talks about dressing up her friends, training as an actress and reveals her favorite movie: Closer (she knows everyone who wasn’t in the movie). Stephen the gamer makes a PSA about arthritic thumbs.

Episode 60: A German Sadgasm

30 Mar

An all-around oversleeping delays but doesn’t stop this week’s Somebody and Me episode as friends of the show Andy Bolduc and Damian White swing by to say hello (and quite a bit more). The quartet takes a phone call from a German gentleman, discusses improv groups Sadgasm and Potterprov, and plays a bit of Previous Previews.

Episode 59: Brian Elles

23 Mar

Welcome to the write up! Rob is cheeky enough albeit also too stupid to find another way to introduce the show as Brian Elles (open to interpretation on pronunciation) stops by the show for a recording session. Brian talks about his role in the upcoming Taproot music video, his background in acting and some inadvertent trivia on the state of Ohio, er.. The state of THE Ohio. Rob needs an attitude adjustment on Previous Previews per Pat but gets it together to prevail. Pat looks on.

Episode 58: Jack Bourgeois

16 Mar

This week the gents have Jack Bourgeois (pronounced as it’s spelled…in France) on the show to discuss his involvement in the acting and improv communities and definitely not Cheers! The group takes a phone call from a man with an eerily familiar life story, discuss some iO vs Second City and then play some Preview Review in honor of March Madness…so 64 movies.

Episode 57: Luc Gehant

9 Mar

This week on Somebody and Me, Pat and Rob have fellow improviser Luc Gehant on the show. Luc discusses his foray into life with a genealogical review of his French/German (we don’t know how that works either, but it does) ancestry, his foray into comedy at Second City, and his gift, for Ray…..Jacque the explorer turns up with a Native American guide but not before a mercenary intrudes with one of those cool, curved out 17th century guns. Luc defends his time at Second City as opposed to iO and then Rob duels Luc in Previous Preview Review Trailer Tricks. Rob prevails, winning by a narrow margin; James Earl Jones has QUITE the extensive career — stretching far beyond obscurity and into the unknown (literally).
